Country by country

Government emergency preparedness campaigns, country by country

62 governments compared: Denk vooruit, Be Ready (UK), 72 hodin, LT72, Be Emergency Ready, Ready.gov. 31 name a national campaign; 31 do not.

Updated 2026-10-26· 139 official sources

Short answer. Of 62 countries compared, 31 name a national preparedness campaign, programme or dedicated website, such as the Netherlands' Denk vooruit (72 hours) 12, the Czech 72 hodin 3, Lithuania's LT72 4, Ireland's Be Emergency Ready 5, the UK's Be Ready 6 and the US Ready campaign 7. The other 31 mostly rely on a single national guide or leaflet; Hungary publishes neither a campaign nor a booklet 8.

How do the 62 countries compare?

Each row gives the campaign or official website named in official sources, who runs it, and how long households are asked to manage alone. "No named campaign found in official sources" means the sources read name a guide, leaflet or web page but no campaign; the main publication is given instead. "Unconfirmed" marks a point that could not be read at its official source; it is not stated here as fact. For the number of days alone, see How many days of supplies each country recommends.

Which campaigns are named after 72 hours?

Four campaigns carry the number in their name: the Czech 72 hodin 3, Lithuania's LT72, named after its 72-hour self-sufficiency target 447, Latvia's 72 stundas 46 and Finland's 72 hours campaign run by SPEK 28. Moldova's guide also puts it in its title 50.

Others use the same horizon without the number in the name: Denk vooruit in the Netherlands 2, Prêts. Ensemble in Belgium 13, Get Prepared in Canada 88, Afete Hazır Türkiye in Turkey 77 and Romania's fiipregatit.ro 60. Denmark's Forberedt på kriser 22, the UK's Be Ready 6, Iceland's 3 dagar – Ertu klár? 39 and Poland's Poradnik bezpieczeństwa 56 ask for three days, and New Zealand's Get Ready for three days or more 136. Our 72-hour kit guide explains what such a kit usually contains.

Which campaigns ask for a week or more?

Estonia's Ole valmis! 25 and Norway's DSB 55 ask for at least one week. Taiwan's National Public Safety Guide asks for at least 7 days of home supplies 127, and Singapore's handbook for two weeks of essential food 121. Switzerland's Kluger Rat – Notvorrat sets about one week of food 75. Some countries without a named campaign ask for longer: Germany 10 days if possible 33, Austria 14 days 10. See How to build a two-week supply.

Which campaigns set no number of days?

Three well-known campaigns give no fixed duration. Ready.gov of "several days" 101, Be Emergency Ready of enough food and water "to see you through an emergency" 42, and Io non rischio asks households to keep water and food in stock without a figure 4344.

Which countries run their campaign as a printed booklet?

Six countries back their campaign or guide with a booklet mailed to every household: Poland (about 17 million copies from December 2025) 57, the Czech Republic (5.2 million, November 2025) 21, Sweden (more than 5 million, November 2024) 70, the Netherlands (by 10 January 2026) 52, Norway (autumn 2024) 54 and Estonia (more than 566,000 homes, 2024) 26. Ireland's Be Emergency Ready booklet can be requested by post from the OEP 41. Print runs and editions are compared in Which countries send a crisis booklet to every household?.

Which campaigns are mainly websites, apps or social media?

Finland chose a website over a paper copy for every home, and its Ministry explained that choice 27139. The UK's resource is the Be Ready website with a downloadable checklist 6, and the US relies on Ready.gov 7. Lithuania's LT72 also has its own mobile app 4. Malaysia's campaign takes the form of social-media infographics 114115, and Kazakhstan's 60 seconds of safety is a series from the emergencies ministry 111.

Who runs these campaigns?

Many are run by a civil protection or emergency agency: the NCCN in Belgium 11, the DSB in Norway 55, NEMA in New Zealand 136, FEMA in the United States 7, AFAD in Turkey 77. Defence ministries lead in Latvia 46 and Taiwan 125, and Ireland's Office of Emergency Planning belongs to the Department of Defence 41. Two are run by associations: Iceland's 3 dagar – Ertu klár? by the Icelandic Red Cross, referenced by the civil protection department 3740, and Finland's 72 hours by SPEK, the Finnish National Rescue Association 28. Who to call in each country is in Emergency agencies compared.

Which countries hold a yearly preparedness week or day?

Canada holds Emergency Preparedness Week in May 87; Norway's Egenberedskapsuka falls in week 44 53; France marks a Journée nationale de la résilience on 13 October 31; the Philippines observes National Disaster Resilience Month every July 117; Colombia runs an annual national drill, held on 21 October in 2026 92; and Singapore holds Total Defence Day on 15 February 121.

Which countries have no named national campaign?

Thirty-one countries name no campaign in the official sources read; most publish a single guide instead 70. In Brazil, Spain and South Africa the named initiatives are regional or local: SP Sempre Alerta in São Paulo 86, Catalonia's Prepara't campaign 68, and the City of Cape Town's guidelines 138. For Malta 49, Qatar 118 and Thailand 129, the available information could not be confirmed at an official source.

Preparing with or without a campaign

A campaign gives a starting point, not a plan that fits every household. The official sources below lead to each country's current advice, and How do I make a family emergency plan? covers the steps of a household plan. The Phaenyx plan brings the published recommendations for your country together in one document, for those who prefer to work from a single place.
