Malaysia's official emergency bag list, item by item

Short answer. Malaysia's official emergency bag list has 10 lines, drawn from two infographics republished by the National Security Council (MKN): one by NADMA and one by the Information Department, credited to MET Malaysia ¹². The bag is meant to last 72 hours ². No line gives a quantity, so each household decides how much to pack.

What is on the official list?

The table below combines both infographics. The Malay wording is the official text; the last column shows which source names the item.

NADMA's infographic lists 10 items without numbering or quantities. The Information Department list adds shoes, blanket, safety jacket, medicines and hygiene items ¹². The numbering above is ours.

What do the two sources say about the bag?

The Information Department infographic, "Beg Kecemasan: Bug Out Bag (BOB)" (26 September 2024), describes the bag as holding the essentials to last 72 hours in a disaster or unavoidable situation ². The National Security Council, republishing NADMA's "Beg Kecemasan" infographic (3 December 2024), encourages residents of flood-risk areas to keep an emergency bag in every home ¹.

What does the list leave open?

Because no quantities are given, a few choices fall to each household:

• Water and food. The list names a water bottle, clean water and long-life food, without amounts ¹². Our guide How much water to store per person per day? gives the figures used by other agencies, which are not Malaysian rules.
• Medicines. The list names medicines and an emergency kit but not their content ². See What should be in a home first-aid kit?.
• Documents and cash. The list names important documents and cash ¹. See Which documents and how much cash to keep for an emergency?.
• Radio. A battery-powered mini radio is on the list ¹. See Which radio and alerts do you need when networks are down?.

Needs not covered by the list, such as infant supplies or pet food, depend on your household; see What do babies and toddlers need in an emergency kit? and How do I prepare my pet for an emergency?.
