AFAD's Disaster and Emergency Bag list for Turkey: water for each family member, long-keeping food, document copies incl. DASK, radio, first aid.

Updated 2026-10-20· 1 official sources

Short answer. AFAD's "Disaster and Emergency Bag" (Afet ve Acil Durum Çantası) is meant to cover the first 72 hours after an earthquake 1. It contains enough drinking water for each family member, high-calorie long-keeping food, photocopies of key documents including the DASK earthquake insurance policy, clothing, hygiene items, a first aid kit, a sleeping bag or blanket, basic tools, and a battery radio with a flashlight and spare batteries 1.

What does AFAD add about the bag?

  • Dependants and pets. The bag should also cover babies, elderly people, people with disabilities and pets 1.
  • Location. Keep it somewhere easy to reach 1.
  • More than one bag. A bag belongs at work and at school, not only at home 1.

How do I fill in the missing quantities?

AFAD does not give quantities beyond "enough" water for each family member 1. If you want reference figures to plan with, our guides on water per person, the 72-hour kit, first aid kits, emergency radios and emergency lighting compare what other agencies publish. Those figures are background, not Turkish rules.
