Short answer. Moldova's General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) asks for two things: 72 hours of home supplies (water, long-life food, medicines) and an emergency suitcase or backpack for evacuation 1. Water: on average 3 litres per person per day, 4 litres in hot weather 1. The full official list is below, line by line.
What should I keep at home for 72 hours?
From IGSU's guide 1:
- Drinking water for the whole family for 72 hours — on average 3 L per person per day (4 L in hot weather); also locate wells and springs nearby

- Food stock for pets
- Home medicines: painkillers and fever reducers, medicines for digestive disorders, antiallergic medicines, sedatives; restock the home first-aid kit
What goes in the emergency suitcase?

How do I keep the kit useful?
The IGSU list gives no review schedule. Check expiry dates on food, water and medicines, and keep batteries and power banks charged. For background, see the 72-hour kit guide, the first-aid kit guide, important documents and pets.
Is there a ready-made kit?
Phaenyx has a kit page for readers who prefer a ready-made base. Whatever you choose, check it against the IGSU list above: the official list is the reference, and personal items such as medicines, prescriptions and documents always have to be added by you.
