Short answer. Phaenyx found no public list of boil-water or do-not-drink notices in Kuwait. The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEW) takes reports of water and electricity faults on 152 1. Civil Defence advises storing bottled water at 5 litres per person per day, for at least 2 days 23. For the median Kuwaiti city, water stress is "extremely high", now and in 2050 4.
How do I know if my tap water is unsafe?
Phaenyx found no national page of boil-water or do-not-drink notices to check, and no published tap-water quality results on the MEW website 1. What the ministry does publish is a number: 152, to report electricity and water faults 1.
The Environment Public Authority (KEPA) says the "state of our environment" application on its official environmental portal, Beatona (beatona.net), shows air and water quality information through a direct link with its monitoring stations 5. KEPA does not say there that this covers tap water.
If the authorities tell you to boil water or not to drink it, follow the instruction. Official warnings reach phones through the national alert system; see our Kuwait alerts page. For what each kind of notice means in practice, read What to do during a boil-water notice and Do-not-drink notices.
How much water should I store?
The General Directorate of Civil Defence lists bottled mineral water "at a rate of 5 litres per person per day" for a temporary shelter at home 2. Its Safety Guide for Emergency sets the duration: "Sufficient amount of fresh water should be stored, for two days at least with five litres per person per day" 3. For a household of four, that is at least 40 litres.
Two days is the official minimum, not a ceiling 3. Full figures are on our Kuwait emergency supplies page; for storage and rotation, see How much water to store per person per day? and Which containers are safe for storing water?.
Is Kuwait short of water?
Yes, on the natural-resource side. In WRI's Aqueduct 4.0 model, the population-weighted median of Kuwaiti cities falls in the "extremely high" category for current water stress, and stays "extremely high" in the 2050 business-as-usual projection 4. These are city medians: a given area can sit higher or lower. Phaenyx found no public water-restriction notices.
Because supply depends on plants, pipes and power, a stored supply at home is the practical buffer during an outage. See No running water at home and Drought preparedness.
What should I do after a flood?
Follow official instructions on tap water, and report faults to MEW on 152 1. For what to do with your water after flooding, see Water safety after a flood and How to purify water. A household plan can keep your water stock and emergency contacts in one place.
