Short answer. The Home Front Command asks Israeli households to prepare equipment for 72 hours 1. Its official list has seven lines: bottled water and sealed food; a flashlight and emergency lighting; a radio, batteries and a phone charger; a first-aid kit and medications; cash and copies of documents; equipment for the family's own needs; and emergency communication means, including the emergency numbers 1.
What is on the official list?
This is the list from the Home Front Command flyer "A prepared family is a safe family" (משפחה מוכנה היא משפחה בטוחה), whose PDF on the government site is dated May 2022 1. Quantities are given only where the flyer gives them.
| # | Item | Quantity in the flyer |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bottled water and food in sealed packaging | Enough for 72 hours; no per-person figure 1 |
| 2 | Flashlight and emergency lighting | Not specified 1 |
| 3 | Radio, batteries and a portable (phone) charger | Not specified 1 |
| 4 | First-aid kit and medications | Not specified 1 |
| 5 | Cash and important documents (copies) | Not specified 1 |
| 6 | Essential equipment according to the family's needs | Not specified 1 |
| 7 | Emergency communication means (דרכי תקשורת לשעת חירום); the flyer lists the emergency numbers | Not specified 1 |
What is the list for?
The flyer frames the kit around situations "such as a prolonged power outage or a shortage of essential products", for a period of 72 hours 1. It sits alongside the rest of the flyer: a family plan, life-saving instructions during rocket fire, alert channels and emergency numbers 1.
What does the flyer say beyond the list?
It asks families to make sure their protected space is ready and to consider moving children's beds into it 1. The protected space itself, and how to choose one, is covered on the public shelters page. The numbers that line 7 refers to are on the emergency contacts page: 100, 101, 102, 104 and 106 1.
Why are there no quantities?
The Home Front Command flyer lists categories, not amounts 1. A water figure of 3 litres per person per day circulates in Israeli press summaries but could not be confirmed on an official page, so it is not included here. For quantities published by other agencies, see our guides on water per person and the 72-hour kit. Line 6 leaves room for each household's own needs: our guides on vulnerable people and pets can help you complete it.
