How do emergency alerts reach my phone in India?

Two systems run side by side.

SACHET SMS. The SACHET Integrated Alert System was built by C-DOT for NDMA on the Common Alerting Protocol ¹⁴. It sends geo-targeted SMS and is operational in all 36 States and Union Territories ²³. As of April 2026, over 134 billion SMS alerts had been sent in more than 19 Indian languages ²³.
