How much emergency supplies should you keep in Argentina?

SINAGIR asks Argentine households to keep an emergency backpack with water and food for one day, documents, first aid kit, flashlight and cash.

Updated 2026-10-20· 3 official sources

Short answer. Argentina's SINAGIR asks households to keep an emergency backpack or bag ready in case they have to leave home quickly. It should hold bottled water and food for one day, family and home documents in an airtight plastic bag, a first aid kit, a flashlight with batteries, a whistle, cash and prescription medicines 1. No longer home-stockpile duration is published.

What does the Argentine government ask households to prepare?

SINAGIR, the national risk-management system run by the Federal Emergency Agency of the Ministry of National Security, frames its guidance around a grab bag: "Es importante que tener preparada una mochila o bolso de emergencia en caso de tener que abandonar rápidamente la vivienda ante una emergencia" (it is important to have an emergency backpack or bag ready in case you have to leave home quickly) 1.

The official list covers one day of water and food 1. Unlike some countries, Argentina publishes no target of 72 hours, a week or more for supplies kept at home.

What goes in the emergency backpack?

What extra supplies are needed near a nuclear power plant?

Within 10 km of a nuclear power plant, the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN) asks residents to always have batteries for radios and flashlights, and adhesive tape, rags and paper to seal doors, windows and air intakes: "Es importante que tengas disponibles cintas adhesivas, trapos y papeles para sellar las puertas, ventanas y entradas de aire" 3. This applies around Atucha I and II in Lima, Zárate, and Embalse in Córdoba. See our iodine page for the tablets distributed in that zone.

What else does the family plan ask for?

SINAGIR's Family Emergency Plan asks each household to identify the safest zone within 2 or 3 blocks of home, choose a meeting point, and mark the route to get there 2. The plan and the backpack go together: the backpack is what you take, the plan is where you go.

How can you go further than one day?

The official list is a minimum for leaving home. If you want to cover longer disruptions, our guides explain the general benchmarks: the 72-hour kit, water per person, two weeks of supplies and food shelf life. These are not Argentine official recommendations.
