Short answer. Malaysian authorities ask households, above all in flood-risk areas, to keep an emergency bag (Beg Kecemasan, or Bug Out Bag) with what is needed to last 72 hours 21. Public shelters are temporary evacuation centres (PPS) run by the Social Welfare Department: 9,058 nationwide, for up to about two million people 34. In any emergency, dial 999 10.

Who is responsible for preparedness in Malaysia?
The National Disaster Management Agency (Agensi Pengurusan Bencana Negara, NADMA) coordinates disaster management through its National Disaster Control Centre (NDCC) and its disaster portal 5. Several other bodies share the work:
- the National Security Council (Majlis Keselamatan Negara, MKN), which republishes the official emergency-bag infographics 12;
- the Social Welfare Department (Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, JKM), which runs the temporary evacuation centres and the InfoBencana portal 34;
- the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia), which issues weather warnings and runs the myCuaca app 67;
- the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia, APM), one of the services reached through 999 10;
- the Department of Atomic Energy (Jabatan Tenaga Atom, Atom Malaysia), the nuclear regulator 11.
Malaysia sends no national preparedness booklet to households. Official advice takes the form of social-media infographics published in 2024 under the #MalaysiaMadaniSiagaBencana campaign 12.
What does each Malaysia page cover?
| Page | Key fact |
|---|---|
| Emergency supplies | A grab-and-go bag for 72 hours; no quantities and no long-term home stockpile 12 |
| Official kit list | The 10 lines of the official emergency-bag lists, item by item 12 |
| Public shelters | No blast or fallout shelters; 9,058 temporary evacuation centres (PPS), listed live on InfoBencana 34 |
| Emergency alerts | MET warnings at three levels, myCuaca app, flood and tsunami sirens, SMS alerts; cell broadcast in development 678 |
| Iodine tablets | No official potassium iodide guidance; no nuclear power plant 11 |
| Building a shelter | No law on private shelters; ordinary building approval applies 9 |
| Emergency contacts | 999 for police, ambulance, fire and rescue, and civil defence 10 |
Malaysia publishes no technical standard for civil-protection shelters, so there is no separate shelter-standards page.

A date for a live test has been reported in the press but not yet confirmed on an official site.
